Dinner for friends

Laura offered (cook) dinner for six friends and chose a curry recipe she had never made before. Halfway through preparing it, she realised that she had forgotten (buy) coconut milk. She was already worried about (burn) the sauce, and now she had another problem. (serve) six people at the same time is difficult enough even when everything goes according to plan.

Laura dashed to the corner shop (buy) the missing ingredient and returned just before her first guest arrived. She asked him (taste) the curry, and he immediately told her it was too spicy (serve) as it was. He suggested (add) some yoghurt, which worked surprisingly well. Laura finished (prepare) dessert while the curry simmered. Somehow, she managed (save) the meal, and nobody guessed how close she had come to ordering pizza.
