The first day at a new job
On her first morning at a new company, Maya hoped (make) a great impression on her new colleagues. (remember) everyone’s name quickly became the hardest part of the morning, but she managed. Next, she was called into a meeting with HR. Fortunately, she had remembered (bring) all the documents HR had requested. After the HR meeting, an assistant asked her (wait) while he called her manager.
Her manager showed her around and told her where everything was. Maya avoided (check) her phone while people were introducing themselves, even though she has a habit of doing so. Later, her manager said he expected her (update) a customer spreadsheet, although he first spent some time explaining the software. Maya was interested in (learn) how the system worked and actually enjoyed (talk) to the other people on her team about it. By mid-afternoon, she seemed (understand) most of the basics. As she left, she realised she was already looking forward to (come) back the next day.
